If you are having dental implants surgically placed, or if you need to have teeth extracted before getting dentures, you may require an immediate denture. An immediate denture is a transitional denture worn in the period of time between having dental implants inserted and/or natural teeth extracted and when a permanent denture can be worn.
Immediate dentures are constructed before your implants are placed or your teeth are extracted, and inserted immediately following the oral surgical procedure. This immediate placement protects your mouth’s tissues, minimizes bleeding, promotes healing, and helps you make the transition from natural teeth to a permanent denture smoothly.
Following oral surgery, patients will often see dramatic change to their oral structures, including significant reduction in bone mass. During this time, you may need to see the Denturist periodically for adjustments, and most patients will eventually need a reline of their immediate denture to ensure a proper fit during this time of transition and healing.
Once sufficient healing has occurred and your oral structures have stabilized, then your permanent denture is produced.
Many immediate denture patients will require a brand new prosthetic. For some patients who already are wearing a denture, we may be able to modify your existing denture to function as an immediate denture until sufficient healing has occurred or until the post-operative time for implants has passed, then make a new denture.
Vernon Denture Clinic individually crafts each immediate denture, using only the best materials and techniques to ensure an accurate fit, optimal function, and natural aesthetics.
