Whether your denture is partial or complete, implant-supported or conventional, you will need to decide if you want a standard denture or a precision denture.
Standard dentures are the most basic type of denture. Impressions of your mouth are taken to ensure that the denture fit is as accurate as possible. Then a bite relationship is constructed, which will determine how your teeth bite together or function.
The functionality of a standard denture is based on a “law of averages.” This means that the measurements and positional relationships of how the denture will work are based on a range of average values, not from a patient’s individual physiology or biomechanics.
For some patients, standard dentures would perform adequately over the denture’s lifespan. For other patients, precision dentures would be recommended due to enhanced fit and personalized function that precision dentures provide.
